Journal 10
"While intent and motivations vary, SEA practices dissolve the distance between viewer and artists, foreground everyday events, invite participation, disrupt, and use dialogue as a medium (Meva, 2009) in interest of social change."
Main Ideas:
-Challenges students' own knowledge and encourages problem-solving of their own volition
-Allows students to open up a dialogue about different issues that they're excited about and shares that passion with others
-Gives students freedom (choice-based art) in which they normally can't
Reflection:
As a K-12 survivor, my younger self would absolutely have such a great love for this kind of artmaking, especially if it was on my own terms. Researching and Reading literacy that doesn't interest the student can often diminish the amount of reading that they do on their own time. I think this kind of project would let students search for sources that they wish to find and dive deep into. For my future as an educator, I see this as a great lesson to incorporate into my own curriculum to allow students of all backgrounds to create and display their passions.
